KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo County authorities arrested a wanted man on Thursday inside Bronson Methodist Hospital after he took off from a traffic stop and led deputies on a high-speed chase.
According to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was seen driving recklessly in the area of South 26th Street and the I-94 Business Loop in Comstock Township around 1:15 pm.
When deputies tried to pull him over, the suspect took off and led deputies on a chase on eastbound I-94 to the Kalamazoo/Calhoun County line. The suspect was then able to turn around and head back towards Kalamazoo on the highway, reaching speeds of 120 miles per hour according to deputies.
Once the chase made its way into Kalamazoo, deputies terminated the chase due to safety concerns.
A few minutes later, Bronson security staff called dispatchers and reported the suspect’s car was in the hospital’s Walnut Street parking ramp.
Authorities say the driver got out of his car, shed his jacket, put on a mask and went inside the hospital, where he was found within a few minutes and arrested without incident.
He was lodged in the Kalamazoo County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding and on an outstanding warrant for absconding parole.
