LANSING, MI — The Chevrolet Camaro will go out of production early in 2024. General Motors made the announcement on Wednesday but says a new generation of the muscle car could happen in the future as it begins to rollout its electrification plans.
The Camaro was introduced in 1966, ended production in 2002, and revived in 2010. The car is built at Lansing’s Grand River Asembley Plant just south of downttown Lansing along I-496. Demand for the Camaro has dropped dramatically, the company says. GM produced just over 200,000 models in 2022.
GM has made no announcement on what could replace the Camaro production in Lansing. The Grand River plant also produces the Cadillac CT4, CT5 and Blackwing. Sales of Cadillac models has increased in recent years.
GM has previously announced it is planning to sell an entirely electric vehicle lineup by 2035.
