LANSING, MI — A new study finds the state of Michigan is underfunding roads by three-point-nine-billion-dollars a year and 45-percent of non-federal aid roads are in poor condition.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer says she is not surprised at all by the findings, even though she promised to fix the roads. She blames it on decades of underfunding.
Michigan Chamber of Commerce president Jim Holcomb says action needs to be taken now. Bad roads are driving businesses aways from investing in the state. The Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association says solutions need to include an increase in the gas tax or the sales tax or taxing people on how many miles they travel.
