KALAMAZOO MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo County Board of Canvassers has rejected two recall petitions against County Treasurer Thomas Whitener.
The filing of the petitions came on the heels of controversy surrounding Whitener, including a call from County Commission chairperson Michael Quinn for him to resign in December.
Whitener and his office faced accusations regarding a backlog of receipt processing, millions of dollars not being invested, and the absence of progress reports from the Treasurer’s office not being sent to commissioners, as well as concerns regarding the level of experience in the office.
Whitener has maintained that he will not resign, stating he was elected to a full term and will serve the four year term.
No information was available as to the reason why the petitions were rejected.
