PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Comstock and Texas Townships along with the City of Portage are switching over to Life EMS from Pride Care Ambulance as their provider of choice for 911 ambulance services for their jurisdictions.
The change comes after weeks of conversations with the operators of Pride Care Ambulance.
According to a news release, those involved in the conversations determined that Pride Care was no longer able to meet the conditions of it’s contracts with the local governments relating to staffing and ambulance readiness.
The local jurisdictions have been consulting with the Kalamazoo County Medical Control Authority, the agency responsible for coordinating and overseeing the EMS system in Kalamazoo County, to ensure a smooth transition to Life EMS.
In the news release, Portage City Manager, Pat McGinnis said, “Our first concern is for the safety of our citizenry, and that concern alone is driving this decision.” end quote.
The transition is set to take affect at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1.
