KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — As the predicted winter storm makes it’s way across West Michigan, the National Weather Service out of Grand Rapids is reminding drivers to expect slippery road conditions and areas of reduced visibility should they have to venture out.
Authorities are reminding those who must drive to clear all snow and ice from their vehicles, use their headlights at all times, and make sure to have an extra flashlight, food, and water in their car in case of an emergency.
The Michigan Department of Transportation says those who need to drive somewhere can track the progress of MDOT snowplows online from the safety of home before hitting the road.
Some of the plows are also equipped with cameras, allowing travelers to see the streets as they are cleared. That map is available on the Mi Drive website at mdotjboss.state.mi.us/MiDrive/map.
Those expecting to travel by air in the next couple of days are also advised to check on their flights before heading to the airport as the wintery weather could impact flights at both Gerald R. Ford International in Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International in Kalamazoo.
