DETROIT, MI — A huge jump in car sales for the fourth quarter pushed General Motors’ fourth-quarter net income up 16% over the same period a year ago. The Detroit automaker made $1.99 billion from October through December, according to its Q4 report released Tuesday.
Fourth-quarter sales were up 41% for the car maker to more than 623,000 units, led by grwoth in trucks and SUVs. Those figures were helped by improved inventory and selection at its dealer network. By the end of the year the supply of vehicles setting on dealer lots had improved 14% to almost 411,000.
Detroit-based GM sold 2.27 million vehicles for the year, up 2.5% over 2021.
