Dmitry Orlov scored with 32.3 seconds left in overtime Monday night for the visiting Washington Capitals, who overcame a three-goal deficit to beat the New York Islanders 4-3 in Elmont, N.Y.
Orlov deked before beating Ilya Sorokin from point-blank range.
Garnet Hathaway, Tom Wilson and T.J. Oshie scored for the Capitals, who snapped a two-game losing streak and extended their lead over the Islanders in the race for the first Eastern Conference wild-card spot to four points. Washington goalie Darcy Kuemper made 27 saves.
Sebastian Aho, Matt Martin and Hudson Fasching scored for the Islanders, who have lost five of six (1-3-2) to fall into a tie for the final wild-card spot with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Sorokin recorded 31 saves.
Lightning 4, Kraken 1
Andrei Vasilevskiy made 22 saves as Tampa Bay put an end to visiting Seattle’s franchise-record, eight-game winning streak.
Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, Nicholas Paul, Brandon Hagel and Victor Hedman scored for the Lightning, the latter two empty-netters in the final 1:39, as the three-time defending Eastern Conference champions won for the eighth time in their past 10 games.
Vince Dunn scored for Seattle and Philipp Grubauer stopped 27 of 29 shots. The Lightning shut down a Seattle team that had outscored opponents 41-16 over its eight-game run.
Penguins 4, Ducks 3 (OT)
Jake Guentzel scored off a two-on-one with Sidney Crosby 33 seconds into overtime to give Pittsburgh a win over visiting Anaheim. That came after the Penguins, who snapped a two-game losing streak, tied it on a goal by Bryan Rust with 24.8 seconds left in regulation.
Jason Zucker, Evgeni Malkin and Guentzel each had a goal and an assist and Rickard Rakell, playing against his former club for the first time, logged three assists for the Penguins. Pittsburgh’s Casey DeSmith made 26 saves.
Adam Henrique, John Klingberg and Trevor Zegras scored for the Ducks, who have lost four in a row (0-3-1). John Gibson, a Pittsburgh native, made 42 saves. He has not won in 13 road starts this season.
Devils 4, Sharks 3 (SO)
Jack Hughes’ goal with 10 seconds left in regulation sent the game into overtime and Tomas Tatar scored the lone shootout goal to lift visiting New Jersey over San Jose.
Vitek Vanecek had 29 saves for the Devils, who extended their NHL record to 18 wins in their first 21 road games of the season. Nico Hischier had a goal and an assist, Ryan Graves scored and Jesper Bratt had two assists. It was New Jersey’s fifth straight win overall.
Erik Karlsson and Timo Meier each had a goal and an assist, Nick Bonino scored and Michael Eyssimont added two assists for the Sharks, who have lost five of six. James Reimer stopped 38 shots.
Rangers 3, Blue Jackets 1
Mika Zibanejad and Barclay Goodrow scored in the first period as visiting New York beat Columbus for its 15th win in 22 games.
Zibanejad became the sixth player in team history to reach 20 goals in at least six straight seasons with 7:21 left in the first. It also was his eighth career season with at least 20 goals. Goodrow scored on the man advantage with 58 seconds left — his first career power-play goal.
Andrew Peeke scored early in the third to end Jaroslav Halak’s shutout bid, though Columbus lost for the sixth time in eight games (2-6-0).
Predators 2, Flames 1
Roman Josi and Juuso Parssinen scored first-period goals and host Nashville hung on for a victory over Calgary to snap a three-game skid.
Predators goalie Juuse Saros made 38 saves, 21 of them in the third period, in a strong outing. Among his big saves were a clutch stop on Dillon Dube midway through the final frame and a couple in the final minute with Tyler Toffoli twice failing to convert golden opportunities.
Nikita Zadorov replied for the Flames, who saw their two-game winning streak end. Jacob Markstrom stopped 27 shots.
Stars 4, Golden Knights 0
Jake Oettinger made 27 saves for his third shutout of the season as Dallas cruised to a shutout victory in Las Vegas.
It was the fifth shutout of Oettinger’s career and his 20th victory of the season. It also marked the first time this season that the Golden Knights were blanked.
Jamie Benn, Joel Kiviranta, Ryan Suter and Tyler Seguin scored goals for Dallas, which snapped a two-game losing streak. The contest marked the first time that Stars coach Peter DeBoer, who went 98-50-12 in two-plus seasons as head coach for Vegas, opposed the Golden Knights in Las Vegas since his firing last May.
Bruins 6, Flyers 0
Czech linemates Pavel Zacha, David Pastrnak and David Krejci had three points apiece and Jeremy Swayman stopped all 29 shots he faced as Boston beat visiting Philadelphia.
The Bruins scored twice in each period, improving to 21-1-3 on home ice this season. Zacha logged two goals and an assist — tying a career high with three points — in his first game since signing a four-year contract extension. Matt Grzelcyk and Brad Marchand each had a goal and an assist.
Pastrnak also scored twice and has 10 goals over his last six games. Krejci became the fifth player in NHL history to record at least three assists during his 1,000th career game. Flyers goalie Carter Hart was pulled in the second period as Philadelphia had a three-game win streak snapped.
Panthers 4, Sabres 1
Matthew Tkachuk had three assists and Sergei Bobrovsky made 28 saves as Florida defeated host Buffalo.
The Panthers got goals from Brandon Montour — a former Sabres defenseman — Sam Bennett, Anton Lundell and Carter Verhaeghe (empty-netter). Tkachuk increased his points streak to seven games (five goals, eight assists).
Alex Tuch scored Buffalo’s lone goal, his 21st of the season. Sabers goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 30 saves.
Avalanche 6, Red Wings 3
Nathan MacKinnon had two goals and two assists, Cale Makar had two goals and an assist as Colorado beat Detroit in Denver.
J.T. Compher had a goal and an assist for the Avalanche. Artturi Lehkonen also scored, Evan Rodrigues and Devon Toews finished with two assists apiece and Pavel Francouz turned away 26 shots.
Andrew Copp had a goal and an assist while Ben Chiarot and David Perron also scored for Detroit. Ville Husso made 17 saves on 22 shots, and Magnus Hellberg had four in relief of Husso.
Blues 2, Senators 1
Jake Neighbours and Noel Acciari scored first-period goals and Jordan Binnington made 32 saves as St. Louis held on to edge visiting Ottawa.
Though the Blues managed just 20 shots on goal, they played strong enough defense and Binnington was stout while stopping all 12 shots he faced in the third period as St. Louis avoided a third consecutive defeat. The victory was just the fourth in the last 12 home games for the Blues.
Tim Stutzle registered his team-leading 19th goal for the Senators, who were much more competitive after being roughed up 7-0 at Colorado on Saturday. Ottawa is mired in a 1-4-0 rut and has scored six goals in its past four games.
