KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The National Weather Service of Grand Rapids has issued a Blizzard Warning that will be effect from 4 p.m. Thursday, December 22 to 1 a.m. Saturday, December 24.
The warning was issued by NWS Wednesday, December 21 at 1:42 p.m.
Heavy snow is expected with total accumulations of 10 to 20 inches accompanied by winds gusting as high as 45 mph.
The warning covers portions of central and south central Michigan and travel will become very difficult to impossible as widespread blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility. According to the warning, hazardous conditions will mainly impact Friday and Saturday travel with possible power outages.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS: While the snow will start by mid afternoon on Thursday, the strong winds will not start until Friday morning. It is then that conditions will become dangerous due to low wind chills, blowing snow, and very low visibility on the roads.
Law enforcement officials stress that if you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
