PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A new Mental Health Coordinator has joined the ranks at the Portage Public Schools District to support both students and staff.
Marianne Joynt began her new role as Mental Health Coordinator at Portage Public Schools on December 5th. She joins the Educational Supports and Interventions Department following her work as a liaison to the District for Integrated Services of Kalamazoo doing school based consulting.
Joynt, who has a masters in Counseling and Psychology sees her overall role as promoting well being and resilience for students, staff, and parents.
As things have drastically changed over the last couple of years due to the pandemic, Joynt stresses that normal day-to-day issues have intensified. And she offers this advice to both students and parents.
Dr. Jeanine Mattson-Gearhart, Director of Educational Supports and Intervention, said the District is fortunate to have Joynt join the staff at PPS.
Joynt’s position is paid for by Federal At-Risk Funding.
