BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Michigan Department of Transportation is inviting the public to an open house to discuss a planned project to rebuild the I-94 interchange at Capital Avenue in Battle Creek.
MDOT officials say the work will close Capital Avenue for 75 days to rebuild the bridge over I-94.
The open house is set for Thursday, December 8 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room at Battle Creek Public Works located at 150 South Kendall Street.
Staff at the open house will discuss the Capital Avenue closure and plans for maintenance of traffic along with future updates on the larger I-94 corridor project through Battle Creek to address other work.
During the closure, there will be pedestrian access to a transit shuttle and the I-94 ramps will remain open.
MDOT says the closure will result in a better finished bridge which will require 75 days instead of the originally planned 240-day work schedule resulting in a savings of $1.5 million in project costs.
The Capital Avenue interchange ramps will be closed and rebuilt after the bridge is completed and reopened.
MDOT plans to begin the work in summer of 2023.
