CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Starting Monday, August 1, Calhoun County Emergency Management and Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch will be moving to a new emergency notification system called Rave Alerts.
Officials say Rave Alerts will issue real-time alerts to the public with potentially life-saving actions they may need to take to keep themselves and their families safe.
Features of the Rave Alerts system include notifications that are only sent when the public needs to know to include emergency notifications such as evacuation notices, missing persons, fugitives at large, severe weather, and traffic alerts.
Messages can be targeted to a specific geographic area via Rave Alerts which is connected with the national integrated Public Alert and Warning System, allowing agencies to send emergency notifications directly to phones if necessary.
Officials also assure that those who sign up for the service will not receive advertisements or spam.
Residents can easily sign up to receive alerts on their smart phone by texting the word Calhoun to 67283.
