LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The group Reproductive Freedom for All has turned in over 750,000 petition signatures to the Secretary of State’s office to put a question on the November ballot to make abortion protected by the state constitution.
After the petition signatures were delivered, State Representative Christine Morse (D-Texas Township) said, “Access to reproductive health is a basic human right. Now the power to enshrine reproductive rights in the state constitution is in the hands of the people.”
State Representative Julie M. Rogers (D-Kalamazoo) said the more than 750,000 signatures “speaks volumes about how Michiganders feel when it comes to bodily autonomy. Michiganders agree that abortion is a decision for an individual to make in consultation with a medical professional they trust. No two pregnancies are the same and no one needs or wants politicians making decisions for them. With these signatures, we are one step closer to voters having their say on the issue.”
