BRONX, NY (WKZO-AM/FM) – The Tigers’ debut appearance on Apple TV+ Friday Night Baseball landed with a thud, as the Yankees trounced over Detroit 13-0 in the opener of a 3-game series at Yankee Stadium.
The Bronx Bombers lived up to their nickname, with homers from Jose Trevino, Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo, and Matt Carpenter. Judge’s league-leading 20th home run was part of a 4-hit performance.
Starting pitcher Gerrit Cole flirted with a perfect game until Jonathan Schoop hit a two-out single in the seventh. Miguel Cabrera and Tucker Barnhart had the other Tiger hits. Starter Elvin Rodriguez gave up 10 runs on 11 hits in 4-1/3 innings in taking the loss.
This afternoon’s pitching matchup will feature Beau Brieske against Luis Severino.
Take note: Sunday’s game is scheduled for an 11:30 a.m. first pitch and will be featured on Peacock’s MLB Sunday Leadoff.
