PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — At approximately 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, an overflow from a sanitary sewer force main occurred along South Westnedge Avenue, approximately 100 feet south of South Shore Drive in Portage.
Director of Transportation and Utilities for the City of Portage Kendra Gwin confirmed that the overflow was caused by a leak on the pressure relief valve for the force main pipe.
According to a City of Portage news release, the pressure relief valve was repaired by 3:30 p.m.
Approximately 150 gallons of wastewater leaked along the east side of South Westnedge Avenue.
The road was cleaned and powdered lime was spread over soils near the area with no health impacts are expected from the incident.
