KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Salvation Army of Kalamazoo will hold a Donut Eating Contest on Thursday, June 2 at Sweetwater’s Donut Mill at Stadium Drive as part of our celebration of National Donut Day.
The contest gets underway at 5:00pm, and contestants will try to eat the most donuts in ten minutes. The winning contestant will get to create their favorite donut which will be featured at Sweetwater’s during the following week as well as a trophy.
A free donut will be offered to all who attend.
The contest will also highlight how The Salvation Army prompted the growth in donut popularity in the United States through their efforts in World War I.
“We are excited to have our Donut Eating Contest again this year, after a few years absence due to Covid-19,” said Corps Officer for the Kalamazoo Salvation Army, Captain Ronnie Amick.
“This is a fun event that highlights The Salvation Army’s history with donuts dating back to World War I when Salvation Army Donut Lassies created and served donuts to our troops on the front lines in France as a way to provide comfort and reminders of home.” said Amick.
