PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – After nearly 19 months of construction, the Charles and Lynn Zhang Portage Community Senior Center is set to open.
The public ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the grand opening of the senior center will be held this Friday, May 20 at 11:00 a.m. It’s located at 203 East Centre Avenue, Portage.
Portage city officials say the 32,000-square-foot facility was funded by a first-of-its-kind in Portage public/private partnership. “Engage. Empower. Enrich. A campaign for the Portage Community Senior Center” raised nearly $5.7 million in community donations, and the City of Portage contributed $5.5 million in city funds for the construction of the state-of-the-art facility.
They says the new Portage Community Senior Center will offer programming, activities, and amenities to provide an enhanced lifestyle of personal growth, health, friendship, and independence for a larger and more dynamic older adult population.
