KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The former home of the Food Dance restaurant in Kalamazoo has a new owner with a familiar name.
The Larry J Bell Library Foundation has announced plans to purchase the building, which will be used to house the Foundation’s headquarters, some public galleries, and a private reference library.
Bell stated that the Foundation was looking at constructing a new facility, but when the Food Dance property became available, plans changed. Bell said that, as of now, it’s not known what renovations the building may undergo, and the two current tenants in the building will be included in any discussion regarding the building’s future.
Bell is the founder and former owner of Bell’s Brewery in Kalamazoo. Since selling his brewery in December to international beverage company Lion, he has also gifted $1 million to Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Kalamazoo to help fund the construction of a new club facility near downtown Kalamazoo and recently donated $5.25 million to his alma mater, Kalamazoo College, part of which will support the establishment of a chair in American history.
