KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo recently sent a team to the IFT World Championship robotics competition.
The 13-member Zoobotics squad from Linden Grove Middle School traveled to Houston to compete against 160 High School teams from 44 states and 15 Countries.
Kalamazoo Public Schools Superintendent Rita Raichoudhuri says that Michigan is the only region that requires all FTCT members to be in Middle School and that the 11 to 14-year-olds went toe to toe with the High Schoolers and placed 18th out of 80 teams in their division.
“They were the highest ranked team from Michigan, and the number one ranked Middle School team internationally,” said Raichoudhuri as she spoke about the job they did at this year’s competition.
The teams compete to design and build robots that can carry out specific tasks in competitions that change every year.
