ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — What started out to be a traffic stop landed a Sturgis man in jail on a wide variety of charges.
The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office says it happened on Friday, February 25th at 8:38 p.m. while deputies were conducting a traffic stop on the 64000 block of Balk Road in Sherman Township. The deputies pulled the man over at first for an equipment malfunction on his vehicle.
The 40-year-old driver was found to have been operating a vehicle with no license.
Further investigation turned up fictitious state identification cards from three different states, tools for counterfeiting bills, blank business checks and several counterfeited checks.
The suspect was arrested and is currently lodged in the St Joseph County Jail on 39 felony charges.
