THREE RIVERS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The city of Three Rivers is getting ready to demolish a piece of history.
City leaders approved a plan recently to tear down the nearly 100-year-old abandoned Three Rivers Hospital overlooking Scidmore park on Spring Street.
Both city and community leaders telling WWMT that it’s bittersweet to see the hospital go, but it’s long overdue. In a meeting earlier this month, the city commission approved a bid from Dore & Associates of Bay City for demolition of the hospital at a cost of $1 million to come from the city’s general fund.
The 1920s era building has been vacant now for more than 30 years. Demolition is expected to begin in the spring, and take about six months to complete.
