KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo man received a more than 20-year sentence for meth trafficking.
50-year-old Maurice Shanta Carson was sentenced to 23 years in prison for intent to distribute over a pound of meth and possession of a firearm in advancing drug trafficking. Carson’s sentencing comes after he was arrested for outstanding warrants in Kalamazoo County in February of 2021.
According to police, over a pound of meth, digital scales and a loaded handgun was found in Carson’s vehicle.
A search warrant for Carson’s home was executed on February 3rd, 2021, where police found more meth, guns and cash from drug trafficking. Police later rearrested Carson on February 10, this time with a rifle and about another pound of meth. He already was on probation for a possession of meth conviction in 2020.
Carson plead guilty to his most recent charges in October of 2021.
