KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Detroit man is awaiting trial in Kalamazoo County on charges connected to a 2006 rape allegation involving a 13-year-old girl at a Western Michigan University overnight summer camp.
33-year-old Ramel Rasheed Lindsay faces two counts of first-degree sexual conduct.
Court records show that Lindsay appeared for a pretrial hearing on the charges in Kalamazoo County Circuit Court on February 16th.
After the sexual assault case had gone cold for 15 years, a team of special prosecutors with the Kalamazoo County Sexual Assault Kit Initiative re-opened the case and brought charges in June of 2021.
WMU Police said Lindsay was 18 years old when he sexually assaulted the 13-year-old girl at the overnight WMU aviation camp. Investigators said the defendant was caught in the victim’s bed in Hoekje Hall on the WMU campus, where the campers stayed.
