KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – An additional suspect has been charged in an October 2021 home invasion and sexual assault in Kalamazoo.
At approximately 1:30 a.m. October 3, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded to an apartment in the 3300 block of Michigamme Woods for a report of a home invasion.
Police say several suspects forced their way into the residence and confronted the lone resident. While inside the apartment, one of the suspects, armed with a firearm, forcefully raped the resident. The suspects then stole the victim’s phone and two vehicles, before fleeing the apartment complex.
Officers located one of the vehicles a short time later and attempted to stop it. The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed until the vehicle became disabled. The occupants fled the scene and were not located. Detectives began investigating this incident and were able to identify the suspects.
November 30, 2021, a 16-year-old was charged in juvenile court for first-degree home invasion, fleeing and eluding and unlawful driving away of an automobile, for his role in the incident.
Tuesday, an additional suspect was charged for the incident. The 17-year-old suspect, who was waived to adult court from juvenile court, was arraigned on the charges of first-degree home invasion, first degree criminal sexual conduct, and armed robbery.
