BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – The Battle Creek Fire Marshal and Battle Creek Police are investigating what is being called a suspicious fire that took place in an empty four unit residential structure on Wednesday night.
Firefighters were dispatched to 74 Chestnut Street at 6:23 p.m..
Nothing was visible from the outside when firefighters arrived. They found the fire on the first floor and it was put out within minutes.
After a search for occupants, it was determined the structure was vacant and unoccupied.
No injuries were reported. The damage was isolated to the first floor of one unit.
Damage to the property was estimated at $65,000 while the damage to the contents was listed at $1,500.
