BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A woman accused of shooting at Battle Creek police officers outside of a mental health facility last week was arraigned on eight charges Tuesday in Calhoun County District Court.
The Battle Creek Enquirer reports 40-year-old Sareedi Harris of Battle Creek is facing three counts of assault with intent to murder, carrying a concealed weapon, three counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and damaging police property.
Bond has been set at $500,000 and not guilty pleas were entered on her behalf during Tuesday’s arraignment. A preliminary exam was scheduled for January 11.
The shooting incident took place at College Street and West Emmett Street as police were assisting with a court-ordered mental health pick-up.
Police say Harris was sitting in a parked car when they arrived. When officers attempted to detain her, the woman waved a handgun and opened fire from inside the vehicle.
Shots were exchanged until she sped away. She was found a short time later with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the shoulder.
Two children were in the car during the incident. Neither were injured and they were placed in the care of Child Protective Services.
