KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – While some southwest Michigan counties have vaccination rates for young children less than 5%, Kalamazoo County has one of the highest rates in the state.
More than 12% of Michigan kids age 5 to 11 have their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, that’s up 10% from last week.
According to Michigan’s COVID-19 dashboard, the rate in Kalamazoo County is 20.3%
Nearly 500 kids ages 5-11 have received their COVID-19 vaccine through Bronson Healthcare. They began the pediatric vaccinations November 14, with shots given at community clinics and during doctor office visits.
In southern Michigan counties, such as Branch, Cass and St. Joseph, just over 600 kids in this younger age group have got the vaccine, which is less than 5%.
The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency has vaccine clinics scheduled throughout the month of December.
