KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – High winds early Sunday evening knocked out electricity to nearly 40,000 Consumers Energy customers in Michigan.
Nearly 3,000 customers in Kalamazoo were impacted, mostly between the Oakwood and Milwood neighborhoods in the southern and eastern portions of the city.
The outage occurred just after 7:00 p.m.
The power outages extended north and west to South Haven and Allegan, as well as the Grand Rapids area.
Just prior to the outage, the National Weather Service issued a special weather statement for the potential of wind gusts between 50 and 55 miles per hour.
Indiana Michigan Power, which also serves portions of West Michigan, reported fewer than 500 outages from the high winds.
