WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKZO AM/FM) – 6th District Michigan Republican Congressman Fred Upton Friday morning joined the entire House Republican Conference in voting against H.R. 5376, the Build Back Better Act.
The plan passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a narrow, partisan vote of 220 to 213, and now awaits consideration in the Senate. It could face considerable changes there.
In a statement shortly after the vote, Upton said, “Let’s face it – the true cost of this partisan bill is some two to three times more than $2 trillion,” said Rep. Fred Upton. “It’s a massive expansion of social programs that will saddle future generations with crushing debt and truly threaten the solvency of Medicare and Social Security. My view is that raising taxes on hardworking folks and small businesses particularly at a time when inflation is surging and the economy is trying to recovery is flat out wrong.”
Upton is a member of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus and the top Republican on the House Energy and Commerce Energy Subcommittee. He says he will continue to advocate for polices that grow the economy, spur local investment, lower taxes on middle-class families and small businesses, and encourage robust employment.
Upton didn’t vote for this bill because it did not go far enough for his leftist friends. He all in on anti 2nd amendment bills, he’s all in on more spending and anti energy independence bills. He is not a Republican, Sinema is more a conservative than he is. And she’s a bisexual democrat. And I would vote for her, she stands for something. and has more cajones than Fred has ever had
