KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – God’s Kitchen of Michigan, a hunger-relief charity serving Kalamazoo and Battle Creek, this week issued an urgent plea for financial donations.
The funds will be used to continue their free meal service, and provide financial resources to sponsor this year’s holiday dinners.
“This is the time of year when charities appeal for donations to keep our doors open,” said Pastor William Stein, Co-Founder, and Chairman of God’s Kitchen of Michigan. “We are not a government-subsidized nonprofit soup kitchen. Therefore, we rely solely on individuals, families, corporations, foundations, unions, etc. to help us fulfill the Lord’s edict to ‘Feed my sheep.'”
God’s Kitchen of Michigan has served nearly 150,000 free dinners since it launched October 11, 2011, at First Baptist Church in Battle Creek, Michigan.
This year the charity has launched a GoFundMe to raise $8,500.00 to cover the cost of their Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. Organizers say with less than a week before it serves the free community Thanksgiving dinner, it appears the charity will fall short of its fundraising goal.
They have received a $1,500 donation from the Kalamazoo Community Foundation to sponsor the program.
Checks can be sent to God’s Kitchen of Michigan, P.O. Box 2632, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49003. To donate online, go to https://www.gofundme.com/f/freekzoodinner2021, or http://www.godskitchenofmichigan.org/donate.
