MARSHALL, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A Battle Creek man charged in the death of Alison Sargent has received a prison sentence as of this week.
The Battle Creek Enquirer reports that Jose Juarez will spend 27 to 60 years behind bars after entering a guilty plea last September.
Sargent was reported missing on March 5, 2020 by her fiancé. Her burned body was found along River Road in Emmett Township two days later.
The Calhoun County Major Crimes Task Force was activated and police got a break on March 10, 2020 when Sargent’s vehicle was found in Detroit. The interior had been burned.
The Enquirer reports that Juarez had been playing with a gun when he accidentally fired it, which killed Sargent. At that point, Juarez said he panicked, setting fire to her body and hiding it in Emmett Township.
As part of his agreement, he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, while other charges were dismissed.
