BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A 45-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday afternoon by Battle Creek Police on a felonious assault charge after he allegedly swung a sword at a neighbor.
Police say they were called to a multi-unit home in the 200 block of Capital Avenue NE just after 1:00 p.m..
They report the man came out to the porch and yelled at people gathered there.
He reportedly focused on a neighbor who was there, threw a chair at that person and then swung a sword.
He did not hit the neighbor, and no one was injured.
When police responded, the man would not come out. Summit Pointe was called in for assistance as police were concerned about the man’s mental health.
After about two hours of speaking to him, police got a search warrant for the apartment. During this time, the man handed the sword to police out the window.
He agreed to come out and police arrested him without further incident.
The man was lodged in the Calhoun County Jail. Responders will look at mental health assistance as part of his case.
