CLEVELAND OH (WKZO AM/FM) – A published report in the Toledo Blade indicates that the Mid-American Conference is set to add two more schools to its membership.
The story states that Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee State are poised to become MAC members.
The article quotes multiple anonymous sources that said that the announcement could be made as soon as this week.
The move would give the MAC a presence in the South, and would increase the visibility and stature of the conference in its two major sports, football and men’s basketball.
Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky are currently members of Conference USA, and their entry into the MAC would require approval of the league’s presidents.
The MAC has looked outside its Midwest power base before for members, as Marshall, Temple, Massachusetts, and Central Florida have all belonged at one time.
Western Michigan’s lone football bowl victory came against Middle Tennessee in the 2015 Popeyes Bahamas Bowl.
