EASTON TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO/AM) — A man armed with a katana sword left a clerk seriously injured during a robbery at a convenience store in Ionia County Sunday morning.
Sheriff’s deputies, who arrested the suspect later in the day, say the 36-year-old man was dressed in black when he entered the store in Easton Township at around 11:45. When a clerk approached him, the suspect stabbed him several times before taking cigarettes and money and then running away.
Deputies later located the suspect in a farm field off Haynor Road and he was arrested after a short standoff. The clerk was taken to a hospital with severe cuts to his face and neck. He was last reported in serious, but stable condition.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned Monday on charges of armed robbery and felonious assault.
