Nikolaj Ehlers scored twice in the final 80 seconds, both in a 19-second span, as the Winnipeg Jets pulled out a 4-3 victory over the host Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night.
The deciding goal, with 1:01 left, came off a shot from the top of the right circle. Ehlers had tied the game moments earlier after the Jets pulled goalie Connor Hellebuyck for an extra attacker.
Ehlers collected his first two goals of the season while Andrew Copp, who won two key faceoffs before the final two goals, had a goal and two assists. Evgeny Svechnikov also scored a goal for Winnipeg, which won its third straight game. Hellebuyck made 32 saves.
Trevor Zegras and Sonny Milano each had a goal and an assist while Josh Manson also scored for Anaheim. John Gibson finished with 21 saves.
Lightning 5, Penguins 1
Visiting Tampa Bay scored three times in the second period en route to a victory over Pittsburgh.
Brayden Point, Ondrej Palat, Ryan McDonagh, Mikhail Sergachev and Alex Killorn scored for Tampa Bay, which had lost three straight entering the game. Tampa Bay goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 28 shots.
Jason Zucker scored for the Penguins, who sustained their first regulation loss in their sixth game of the season. They had picked up eight of a possible 10 points through their first five games despite playing without a revolving door of top players.
Kraken 5, Canadiens 1
Brandon Tanev scored twice as expansion Seattle earned its first home victory, defeating visiting Montreal.
Yanni Gourde added a goal and an assist, Jordan Eberle and Ryan Donato also scored and Jamie Oleksiak had two assists for the Kraken, who improved to 2-4-1, including a 1-1-0 mark in Seattle. Goaltender Philipp Grubauer made 23 saves.
Mike Hoffman scored for Montreal, which has lost six of its first seven games after reaching the Stanley Cup Finals last season. Goalie Jake Allen, filling in while Carey Price is in the NHL’s player assistance program, stopped 21 of 26 shots but was given little help as four of Seattle’s goals came on odd-man rushes.
Flames 5, Devils 3
Andrew Mangiapane scored twice in the first period to take a share of the early NHL scoring lead as Calgary used a quick start to top host New Jersey in Newark.
The Flames won their fourth straight and beat the Devils for the seventh straight time. Calgary also improved to 13-2 in the past 15 meetings with New Jersey thanks to Mangiapane’s second straight two-goal game.
Mangiapane scored his sixth and seventh goals to move into a share of the league lead with Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin and teammate Elias Lindholm, who scored a power-play goal. He scored again after two goals in Monday’s 5-1 win over the host New York Rangers.
Golden Knights 3, Avalanche 1
Chandler Stephenson had a goal and an assist, Reilly Smith and Evgenii Dadonov also scored as Vegas beat Colorado in Denver.
Robin Lehner stopped 26 shots as the Golden Knights ended a four-game skid and extended their winning streak over the Avalanche to five games, dating back to the 2021 playoffs.
Cale Makar scored a goal and Darcy Kuemper had 26 saves for the Avalanche.
Predators 3, Sharks 1
Juuse Saros made 28 saves and Nashville defeated visiting San Jose for its second win in a row.
Matt Duchene, Filip Forsberg and Mikael Granlund scored for the Predators. Roman Josi had two assists, giving him six points (one goal, five assists) over his past two games.
Timo Meier scored a goal and James Reimer made 23 saves for the Sharks, who have lost two consecutive games after winning four straight to open the season.
Wild 3, Canucks 2
Matt Dumba’s first goal of the season, early in the third period, proved to be the difference as Minnesota won at Vancouver.
Mats Zuccarello and Jonas Brodin also scored, and Wild goaltender Cam Talbot made 22 saves to earn his team’s fifth win in six games to kick off the campaign.
Alex Chiasson and Bo Horvat scored for the Canucks, who dropped their home opener. Thatcher Demko stopped 27 shots in a strong performance.
