We’re still learning a lot about tires used for agricultural purposes. With the fast-rising costs of farm inputs right now, saving dollars is becoming more and more critical.
That’s why the tire industry is telling producers they can get more work out of their tractor, consume less fuel and reduce soil compaction by reducing pressure in over-inflated tires. That pressure affects the contact area of your equipment with the soil. Tires inflated to high pressure have a small surface contact area resulting in high surface stress. The transition to radial tires left a square footprint and can be run at lower pressure.
Now, there’s Very High Flexion which can be run with 20% lower pressure than a standard tire. An even more recent development involves Low Sidewall tires with a larger rim and smaller sidewalls which enables them to perform better in the field and on the road.
