This bit of news may have escaped you last week but Friday was Global Handwashing Day.
Talk about everything you really need to know you learned in Kindergarten – maybe this lesson didn’t take as well as some of the others. Just before the pandemic broke USDA did a survey of handwashing at the time of food preparation. It found washing was done only five percent of the time it was required. And only a small fraction of those who washed did the procedure correctly by CDC standards … wetting hands, scrubbing for at least 20 seconds, rinsing and then drying hands with a clean towel.
A USDA report on hand washing is now planned to see what impact COVID may have had on our handwashing practices.
