KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo College men’s soccer team gave a large Homecoming crowd plenty of reason to cheer in a 5-1 victory over Trine University Saturday night at MacKenzie field.
Alex Wallace’s penalty-kick goal in the sixth minute began the scoring for the Hornets (9-2-2, 4-0-0 MIAA). Emilio Romo’s header off a Paul Kearis cross in the 56th minute gave K a 3-1 lead, and he stretched the lead to 4-1 in the 82nd minute with another score from the left side of the penalty area. Romo’s pair of goals gives him a team-high seven on the season, and also three multi-goal games in the past six Hornet contests.
Colin Halloran and Tony Yazbeck also scored for the Kalamazoo, who outshot the Thunder 16-4. Gavin Houtkeeper got the win in goal for Kalamazoo.
The game was a physical match throughout, with each team being issued three yellow cards. Kalamazoo was whistled for 17 of the games’ 29 total fouls.
Next up for the Hornets is a big road trip to Calvin College on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Both teams sit atop the MIAA standings at 4-0.
