KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo College football team was defeated 28-3 by the visiting Alma Scots Saturday afternoon at Angell Field.
Alma scored a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter and one in the second in taking a 21-0 halftime lead.
Ian Burr’s career-long 40-yard field goal cut the Alma lead to 21-3 early in the third quarter, but Alma’s touchdown with 1:47 left in the quarter completed the scoring.
Josh Nichols was 11-26 passing for 90 yards for Kalamazoo (1-5, 0-2 MIAA) and also had 12 yards rushing on eight attempts.
Sheldon Riley led the Hornets on the ground with 15 yards on nine carries.
Jonah Spates (24 yards) and Pierce Burke (21 yards) each had three catches while Lance Taylor had two for 23 yards.
Kalamazoo had 127 yards of total offense to Alma’s 387.
A trio of Hornet defenders had sacks with Payton Fleming, Ryan Hanifan, and Jake Robertson all getting to the Alma quarterback. Hanifan also picked off an Alma pass in the first quarter.
Next up for the Hornets is the Homecoming game vs. Albion on Saturday at 1 p.m.
