LANSING, MI — Hundreds of people rallied on the lawn of the state Capitol on Saturday in opposition of new anti-abortion restrictions in Texas and the possibility the U.S. Supreme Court could overturn Roe v. Wade.
Michigan has what is considered by experts to be a strict abortion ban that was in effect from the 1930s until abortion became legal in the early 1970s nationwide, and it would again be in place if Roe v. Wade is tossed out.
Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan executive director Nicole Wells Stallworth says there are several states planning “copycat legislation” to the Texas ban after six-weeks of pregnancy.
