PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – In commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire, National Fire Prevention Week is observed annually the week of October 9.
To kick off Fire Prevention Week 2021 (October 3 –9), the Portage Department of Public Safety Fire Division will be hosting a Fire Prevention Open House on Saturday, October 2, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
This event is free and open to the public.
Residents are invited to Fire Station No. 1, located at 7830 Shaver Road, for family-friendly activities.
Those activities will include fire safety demonstrations, fire safety education and hand-outs, and fire prevention puppet shows.
Participants can also check out fire gear, meet firefighters, get an up-close look at police and fire vehicles and meet Sparky the Fire Dog.
