KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Western Michigan men’s soccer team battled Purdue Fort Wayne to a 1-1 tie at the WMU Soccer Complex on Thursday evening, extending its unbeaten streak to four games.
The Broncos (2-2-2, 0-0 MAC) picked up a goal by Dylan Sing and goalkeeper Isaac Walker made four saves in the tie. WMU outshot PFWU 10-6 overall but the Mastodons had a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Sing netted his fourth goal of the season and fourth in three games in the 30th minute to give Western Michigan a 1-0 lead. WMU had a corner kick and Caden Jackman played it short to Brennan Creek. The junior midfielder crossed it into the box and Sing out-jumped the crowd and headed it into the back of the net.
WMU carried its lead into the second half but the Mastodons were awarded a penalty kick in the 55th minute and Keith Larson slotted it into the net to tie it up at 1-1.
The Broncos’ best chance to win the game came in the first overtime. WMU had the ball in the Purdue Fort Wayne box when a defender attempted to clear it but Jordan Walker got in front of it and deflected the ball right back on net with Danny Salazar making the quick reflex save.
Western Michigan heads back out on the road to take on the University of Kentucky on Sunday at 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
