LANSING, MI — The microchip shortage impacting auto production worldwide will lead to General Motors keeping the Lansing Delta Township Assembly plant idle for the fourth straight week for the week of August 9th.
In addition, the automaker will shut down the Flint Assembly plant next week before restarting it August 16th. GM Truck factories in Fort Wayne, Indiana and Mexico will also shut down next week.
Meanwhile, GM announced quarterly earnings this morning. The car maker made $2.8 billion in net income on revenue of $34.2 billion in the second quarter 2021 despite the global semiconductor shortage that has cut deep into its inventories.
“The credit for our strong first half goes to our employees and extended team, including suppliers and dealers, who have collectively demonstrated strength, agility and resilience,” GM CEO Mary Barra said in a letter released to shareholders earlier today.
