For a change there’s some positive news regarding honeybee colonies in numbers released Monday.
Total number of colonies were up 2% in last January’s count compared to the year before. An Ag Statistics Service spokesman says the number lost in the first quarter of this year is 13% compared to 14% lost during the same timeframe in 2020. The same trend continued from April until June. Colony Collapse Disorder has diminished by around 27% in figures available for the first three months of this year.
After some really discouraging numbers in recent annual reports, it’s good to be able to pass along data showing improvement in the honeybee colony situation.
