KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo County health officials are reporting that a sanitary sewer overflow took place Sunday afternoon at Spring Valley Park on Mt. Olivet Rd..
It happened just after 3:00 p.m. from a manhole on the grounds of the park. Repair crews were able to stop the flow by around 4:00 p.m.. The amount of material discharged is estimated to be about 500 gallons.
The Kalamazoo County Health & Community Services Department is advising anyone who was walking on trails at Spring Valley Park between 3:05 and 4 p.m. and may have experienced contact with raw sewage, to clean and disinfect shoes, clothes, and skin thoroughly.
There’s no indication at this time that any of the sewage made it into Spring Valley Lake, located inside the park. The Michigan Department of Environmental, Great Lakes, and Energy has been notified of the spill, as required by law.
