BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Calhoun County Sheriff Steve Hinkley announced on Tuesday that detectives from his department have submitted a request to the Calhoun County Prosecutor’s Office to charge 42-year-old Harold David Haulman III in connection with the 2005 murder of Ashley Marie Parlier.
The Prosecutor’s Office has issued a warrant for Haulman’s arrest on a charge of Premeditated 1st Degree Homicide.
Haulman is a former Battle Creek resident who is currently being held in Pennsylvania for two additional murders in that state in 2018 and 2020.
Parlier went missing on June 12, 2005 from her home in Battle Creek. She was pregnant at the time. Her body has never been recovered.
Calhoun County detectives were contacted by Pennsylvania law enforcement regarding her disappearance earlier this year.
They said they had a suspect in custody for other murders and he provided them with details regarding Parlier’s disappearance and the possible location of her body in the northern part of Newton Township.
Calhoun County detectives interviewed Haulman and Hinkley says he confessed to having an argument with Parlier at a home in Emmett Township.
According to Hinkley, Haulman indicated he had assaulted her and knocked her unconscious. He then drove her to a remote area in Newton Township where he struck her in the head several times with a piece of wood until she was dead and later discarded his blood covered clothing that he wore at the time.
Numerous local, state and federal agencies have been involved in the investigation.
