ARLINGTON, TX (WKZO AM/FM) – The Detroit Tigers beat the Rangers 5-3 yesterday to take the series two games to one in Texas.
Jeimer Candelario hit a solo homer and Robbie Grossman knocked in two runs in the win. A three-run top of the seventh proved to be the difference.
Kyle Funkhouser picked up the win in relief of Casey Mize. Funkhouser is now 3-0 on the season.
Joey Gallo added to his home run total with a pair of solo shots for Texas to give him 23 on the year. Gallo was named as one of the participants in this year’s Home Run Derby.
Detroit opens a four-game set against the Twins in Minnesota tonight ahead of the All-Star break. The opening pitch is scheduled for 8:10 pm. EDT.
