KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A local Egyptian food truck in Kalamazoo has announced a new downtown location.
Cairo’s Kitchen announced Wednesday that their first brick and mortar restaurant will be opening on Monday, July 26 at 155 West Michigan Avenue, Suite 1D, located inside the Exchange Building.
Officials with the truck say the restaurant will focus on unique Egyptian dishes reminiscent of the street food the Rezkalla family enjoyed while growing up in their hometown of Cairo, Egypt.
The menu has been crafted by the Rezkalla’s Mother, Chef Slawa Hana, and will feature familiar favorites such as shawarma, falafel, and rice pudding.

It will also have Egyptian offerings such as koshary, an Egyptian staple rice dish, bechamel, a baked pasta and spiced beef dish with creamy cheese sauce, Qatayef, a sweet dessert made with pancake batter and filled with a medley of nuts, along with other distinctive plates for those looking for new flavors.
The new location will be open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. with indoor and seasonal outdoor seating.
There are also options for pick-up and delivery via DoorDash, as well as further options for catering.
Officials add that the restaurant is family owned and operated with the goal of providing guests with an authentic culinary experience every time they visit Cairo’s Kitchen.
The Rezkalla family migrated from Egypt to the U.S. and are looking to build a legacy for years to come.
“We always strive to bring our best in everything we do, we are persistent, dedicated and always the hardest working in the room,” Cairo’s Kitchen co-founder Ramy Rezkalla said in a statement. “Our hope is that this character shines through in every bite.”
The grand opening event on Monday, July 26 will feature dishes from their new expanded menu. As a token of gratitude for supporting the launch of this new location, each customer will get free Qatayef Egyptian dessert with their order.
“Cairo’s Kitchen is more than just a restaurant, it’s a representation of our love and passion for our culture,” Rezkalla added. “We wanted to share the rich Egyptian history, culture, and love for food with our community here in West Michigan. We are raising the bar high as we take pride in what we offer and the culture we are representing. At the end of the day, we want to make sure that when customers come to Cairo’s Kitchen, they get one of the most satisfying dining experiences around.”
Cairo’s Kitchen started off in 2019 as a food cart at Farmer’s Markets and various food truck events.
