KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Congressman Fred Upton is speaking out on recent COVID-19 vaccination trends in Michigan.
Upton spoke with WHTC Holland on Tuesday morning, one of WKZO’s sister stations.
He said that as far as vaccinations go, Kalamazoo County is doing well compared to the rest of the state.
“Kalamazoo is my largest county, they are actually above the state average in terms of first and second [doses] and being fully vaccinated,” Upton said.
However, Upton is concerned about other counties, especially with the emergence of the Delta variant.
“A lot of my other counties are even double digits below the state average, which is not good,” Upton said. “Some news that came out over the weekend was that of the deaths from COVID in June, 99.2 percent of those were folks who had not been vaccinated.”
As a result of this development, Upton is encouraging residents who have not received a vaccine to do so as soon as possible.
“It’s free, there is no supply issue here, but let’s get this and hopefully these numbers get better in the weeks ahead,” Upton said.
