NEWBURG TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Cass County authorities were called to assist a police chase that moved from Indiana into Michigan Thursday.
Sheriff Richard J. Behnke says at 1:30 p.m., his office was called by the Middlebury Police Department alerting them to a chase coming into Cass County and that they needed assistance. They joined on M-40 near Hoffman Rd. in Newburg Township.
30-year-old Chase Ryan Rohm of Three Rivers was leading the chase, avoiding stop sticks. Eventually, he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into an electrical pole, overturned, and landed in a ditch.
He was transported to a Three Rivers hospital with injuries suffered in the crash. His condition is unknown as well as why he fled from the police.
Deputies were assisted on scene by Newburg Fire, Newburg Ambulance, Three Rivers Ambulance, Middlebury PD., Pokagon Tribal Police, MSP, St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Dept.
